Rt Hon Kevan Jones MP represented North Durham in Parliament from 2001 to 2024 when he was appointed to the House of Lords as Lord Beamish.

Kevan served as a Minister for Defence, with responsibility for Veterans and continues to take a strong interest in the Defence policy field.  He also has policy interests in economic regeneration, particularly of former coalfields, and in Mental Health.

Kevan was heavily involved in securing justice for Sub-postmasters impacted by the Horizon Scandal.
